Who we are
chair – Jane Slowey
Jane is the Ambassadorial representative for Skills – Third Sector with all key stakeholders and funders. She provides leadership to the board and works closely with the Chief Executive to make sure that we achieve our aims and objectives.
chief executive - Julie Wilkes
Julie took up the post of Chief Executive in December 2009 and leads Skills - Third Sector to achieve our mission and values.
Julie has extensive experience in both the skills world and voluntary sector including as Chief Inspector where she lead the team implementing the social work degree with Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work (CCETSW) and General Social Care Council (GSCC). More recently Julie has held roles in Barnardo’s corporate UK Team and more recently as chief executive at Voluntary Action Wakefield.
director of knowledge management – Janet Fleming
Janet has been involved with the Skills – Third Sector from the incubation phase. She oversaw the set up of Skills - Third Sector and now has responsibility for the the Labour Market Intelligence (workforce research) which identifies the skills needs and priorities of charities and social enterprises. learning and skills manager - Mark Freeman
Mark is responsible for all areas work related to learning and skills. Mark works on projects that relate to national occupational standards, qualification development and producing the sector qualification strategy. Mark is also responsible for working with the sector and other stakeholders to raise awareness and understanding of the importance of learning and skills and to publicise the work of the sector in the learning field. project manager - Eve Sadler
Eve’s responsibilities include leading on an apprenticeship programme for the sector and developing national skills standards, related qualifications and research into skills in the sector. Eve spent five years with Groundwork, initiating, developing and managing diverse community, youth and skills projects. Eve has a Master of Research in Environment and Development and did a placement with the NGO Fah Diow in Thailand. Eve is a Member of the Chartered Management Institute and a qualified personal coach. Email Eve.
project manager - Terry Wolf
Terry Wolf has a long history of working in a Voluntary Sector Council in a variety of roles, including developing an NVQ assessment centre specifically for voluntary organisations. Terry is responsible for developing skills standards around monitoring and evaluation and the national occupational standards for Development Work. Terry will be developing tools and guides and development of qualifications for development workers. Email Terry.
policy support officer - James McHugh
James is responsible for monitoring and analysing policy trends in relation to skills, funding for skills and the potential impact on third sector organisations and their workforce. James will also be working to develop Skills – Third Sector’s policy agenda through briefings, submissions, and reports. James has an MA degree in sociology and work experience at a political think tank, a race equality council, and charity fundraising. Email James.
office manager – Clare Spicer
Clare is the first point of contact for Skills - Third Sector responsible for all administration including financial management. She provides PA support to Jane Slowey and Julie Wilkes and is the link between the organisation and the board. Email Clare.
