What should Skills - Third Sector be doing?
At a couple of workshops at the recent COVER AGM (see http://www.cover-east.org for more information) participants were asked to come up with an idea of some of the things that they would like to see Skills – Third Sector do. The list below shows some of the key ideas, it represents a flavour of the discussions held - any additions, comments or ideas that you have would be welcome.

1. Help on where to find specialist training would be useful, especially in areas such as fundraising, marketing and IT.
2. Work that will highlight the benefits of training for both employers, and staff and volunteers; this could be used to encourage trustees and managers to invest in learning opportunities.
3. A case study based activity, presentation or workshop that could be used to deliver to organisations on the benefits of learning. This would allow champions to better make their case.
4. Methods to help people ensure that the training they receive is of high quality, this may be linked to national accreditation but could also be some form of kite mark or quality scheme for trainers.
5. Tools or advice on what happens after a training needs analysis has happened that help us record information and link learning into the organisational plan.
6. A list of online learning resources that could be accessed by everyone.
7. Ideas about funding and how it can be built into bids or applications.
8. Lists of non training ways of learning and their benefits and links to appropriate resources or people that can help.
9. Development of career pathways that indicate how people could develop their own careers.
10. Information about management and leadership and how to improve skills.

What about building on some of the work that was started by Third Sector Leadership Centre but that has not been picked up by the NSS stream? Projects such as the regional forums and leadership ambassadors were a great success but only scratched the surface of what was needed.

A good wish list, some useful ideas in here.
One answer that I would suggest is to mention Trainerbase.
If anyone is looking for a specialist trainer (or any kind) Trainerbase is an organisation that helps you do just that.
They offer a free of charge service recommending trainers and offer the facility to post an ‘opportunity’ on their web site if you have a specific need.
Link is http://www.trainerbase.co.uk/ - worth being aware of the site and the free services it offers.
