Fundraising Standards

Below are the standards for Fundraising, which were revised and updated in 2008.

These Standards are intended to be a helpful guide to informing you about what it is you need to do, learn and understand in order to be a fundraiser.

The Standards are designed to help you understand the role of a fundraiser and the various competencies needed.

It may be that yours is a small organisation and you are responsible for all aspects of fundraising in which case the complete standards may be of the most use to you.

However, if you only require an overview of what the fundraising standards look like, how they can be used and a starting point by which you can begin to engage with them, a condensed version of the standards may be more appropriate - you can download a booklet version of the Standards from this page.

If you have any queries about the standards, please contact us.

The complete fundraising standards can be downloaded here. (.pdf, 5MB).

This is an interactive document that allows you to jump between sections of the standards by clicking on the links, in the same way you would with a web page.

Fundraising Booklets

We have published a condensed version of the Fundraising Standards, which you can download below - or purchase a printed copy for £5 from the NCVO website.

The pack consists of three booklets, which you can download separately below:

Booklet 1: Core fundraising standards (.pdf, 101Kb)

Booklet 2: Specific fundraising standards (.pdf, 91Kb)

Booklet 3: Sources of useful information (.pdf, 71Kb)

Codes of Fundraising Practice

The standards have a clear relationship with the Institute of Fundraising’s Codes of Fundraising Practice. For information on all the codes, visit the Institute of Fundraising website.
