National Occupational Standards for Development Work set out the skills that staff and volunteers who advise community and voluntary organisations should have, as well as what they should know and understand, to do their job well.
Development workers work in organisations that provide advice to voluntary sector organisations. These include Voluntary Sector Councils, Voluntary Action, funding support organisations, local area partnerships, Primary Care Trusts and social enterprises. They advise local organisations that provide support and services to people who live in the community on all aspects of organisational development including funding, HR, governance, management and monitoring and evaluation.
The National Occupational Standards for Development work have been written by a group of people who have direct experience of advising community and voluntary organisations. Read about how you can use the National Occupational Standards for Development work or download the standards from this page.
The National Occupational Standards build on the SkiLD competency framework that has been developed by SkiLD/NAVCA.
