Resources for development workers

National Occupational Standards don’t describe ‘how’ you should carry out development work. Instead they set out ‘what’ you need to do and the things you need to know and understand. Here we list some of the practical tools available to development workers.

SKiLD

SKiLD is run by NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action). It provides a range of support to infrastructure organisations including one-day courses, information sheets an e-bulletin and links to development workers networks. The National Occupational Standards for Development work build on the SKiLD framework.

Charities Evaluation Services

Charities Evaluation Services provides support and advice on quality and evaluation systems for voluntary sector organisations.

Directory of Social Change (DSC)

Directory of Social Change is a leading source of information and training on fundraising, management, organisational, personal development, communication, finance and law.

ENTO

ENTO Professional Development provides professional development for people involved in providing information, advice and guidance to learners and clients.

National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO)

NCVO is the largest umbrella body for the voluntary and community sector. It gives advice, voice and support to civil society throughout the UK.

SFEDI

SFEDI hold the National Occupational Standards for social enterprise Business Enterprise and Business Support.

Workforce Development

NCVO’s Workforce Development team provides advice and support to voluntary and community organisations to help them recruit, retain and develop their workforce.
