Monitoring and evaluation

Recognising the importance that monitoring and evaluation have for the success of charities, social enterprises and community and voluntary organisations, Skills – Third Sector and Charities Evaluation Services have co-produced a set of good practice standards for monitoring and evaluation.

These standards offer a clear and simple framework for what you need to do to set up a monitoring and evaluation process for your organisation.

This is important not only to help you make the case to funders in a time of austerity, but also to make sure that you learn from both successes and mistakes to improve services.

There are four steps in the monitoring and evaluation process:

  • planning for evaluation
  • gathering evidence
  • analysing the information
  • and sharing the findings.

These were developed by people who have experience of monitoring and evaluation in charities, voluntary, community and social social enterprise organisations. They are not, however, formal National Occupational Standards.

We will be producing a pocket guide for monitoring and evaluation shortly, they will be uploaded to this page as soon as they are available.
