National Standards-based Qualfications
We continue to work with awarding bodies to develop qualifications based on National Standards.
Qualifications now available include:
ASDAN
Community Volunteering Qualifications Levels 1-3
Volunteers don’t have to complete all of the units to gain a qualification.

The Level 3 consists of 9 units

- Health and Safety for volunteers
The Level 2 consists of 5 units:
- Preparing to volunteer
- Skills for self management
- Dealing with meetings
- Working to good practice standards
- Understanding needs, issues and responses
The Level 1 consists of 6 units:
- Preparing for your volunteering role
- Personal skills for volunteers
- Dealing with meetings as a volunteer
- Meeting your organisation’s standards of good practice
- Describing needs issues and your own voluntary work
- Working in a team as a volunteer
ASDAN Community Involvement and Volunteering Award (aimed at 13-19 year olds) consists of six units:
- Starting Out
- Planning and Preparation
- Taking Part
- Meetings
- Issues and Needs
- Personal Development

Lantra
Level 3 Award in Volunteer Management
The purpose of the Qualification is to enable individuals and organisations to develop an awareness of the skills needed to manage volunteers, and to apply these skills across a wide range of volunteer environments.
This qualification will be particularly suitable for managers who wish to undertake formal accreditation to gain a qualification but may not yet be in a position to undertake a full NVQ.
The Qualification comprises of six units all of which are assessed via the completion of a single case study/workbook. Each unit represents one credit of learning at level 3:
- Plan Volunteer Work
- Organise Volunteers and Resources
- Monitor Volunteer Work
- Communicate Effectively to Brief Volunteers
- Support Volunteers to Solve Problems
- Give Feedback to Volunteers

VDS offer a range of accredited Awards that will provide individuals with new, recognised accredited qualifications and opportunities to learn and develop skills in the management of volunteers and volunteering.
All VDS accredited awards programmes are aligned with the National Occupational Standards for the Management of Volunteers and the Scottish Qualifications and Credit Framework (SCQF).

Level 3 Award in Managing Voluntary and Community Organisations
This national qualification is suitable for people new to the responsibility of managing voluntary and community organisations and covers business planning, planning and policy, core values, legal frameworks and equality.
The units have been mapped to the relevant National Occupational Standards and there are various funding and delivery options available

Queens University Belfast
Level 1 Certificate in Effective Management of Volunteers
This qualification is mapped to the Management of Volunteers NOS and is accredited by Queens University Belfast through the Institute of Lifelong
Equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree, the qualification is currently offered via the Volunteer Development Agency in Belfast.
